The True Identity of World Saviors and Genuine Gurus

Saviors in the form of Jesus, Buddha, Krishna and human gurus come when one is ripe to know the truth.

Saviors are always present; however, not many pay attention to them because most humans aren’t ripe to hear their message. When you are ready for truth, the most perfect manifestation of a savior will knock on your door with a message such as this:

“You are not who you think you are.”

Or

“This reality is not what you think it is.”

If you are willing to listen, such a messenger will take you to another shore. And only when this happens will you understand who the savior really was. He or she stood for your very own Self, forgotten because of the preoccupation with the pain and pleasure dream that this world is.

Your own Self cannot reach you directly because your interest in the world will not allow you to perceive it. That’s why saviors or gurus must come to awaken you. Sometimes this help comes not even as a human guru but as a book or a sentence that you cannot forget. Any of these come to take you out of the dream, and it doesn’t have to be only one manifestation of help – it could be many.

At first it truly feels like some external help came to save you, like an awakening thought, a vision of a savior, or a guru in flesh. But as you listen to them they gradually take you beyond this dream to realize that all this time you have been led by your own Self. Call it your Higher Self, or Christ, or Love, or Life – it’s one and the same thing – it’s You.

Many people get stuck in the guru adoration stage, in their personality worship. Their progress is therefore stopped and they remain unable to see who it is that they really worship. If, instead of worshiping a guru or savior and fighting with unbelievers, you listen to his or her message and earnestly follow the received guidance, eventually this will lead you to your source.

It doesn’t matter how the messengers look – appearance isn’t real anyway. The savior just came in a form for you to recognize him or her and pay attention. I almost got caught up in the personality and appearance of Jesus when the most important thing was to follow His message. It’s like looking at the hand pointing to liberation rather than focusing on the liberation itself, like the sage Nisargadatta Maharajwisely put.

Just listen to the message of whatever savior or guru comes into your life and let the message itself take you out of the dream. Such a guru can be anyone; I don’t mean someone wearing orange robes and looking Indian! A guru can be a little girl, an old man or a wise woman; it can be any person helping you to see more Light. But do not pay attention to the personality as it’s like focusing on the scenery on your way home and forgetting the home altogether.

A guru can be in the guise of:

• Life itself
• A human guru
• A non-physical sage appearing in a dream or vision
• Avatars like Mahavatar Babaji
• The Christ (Buddha, Jesus, Krishna)
• The Higher Self
• And more… different appearances, the very same Self trying to reach you.

You’ve been sleeping for such a long time, that you truly believe that you are the body and that this world is your home. These messengers only come when you had enough of this existence and want to wake up.

It’s so amazing to know that your very own Self comes to save you from this world! And that it takes a worldly appearance to become known to your senses! It’s like washing dirt with the help of dirt – your Greater Self needs to use the world to take you out of the world.

There are so many liberators around yet those who are not ready will never notice, or will not know their purpose. Like the birth of Jesus. It’s a universal liberation message, yet so few see that. Most either hate Jesus, or worship his personality, or are so engrossed in religious rituals that miss the point altogether.

Your Greater Self also uses numbers to awaken you (11:11, 22:22, 14:14…), and sentences in a book which makes you pay attention, or certain events that make you think. When you’re aware of an abundance of these wake up calls, you feel so loved and happy!

For me, the major manifestation of my Higher Self was Jesus. I didn’t search for Him – He came to me when I was ready to know. Firstly he communicated to me through the two books – The Aquarian Gospel and ACIM. Later, as I allowed him into my heart, he was able to communicate with me directly.

When all the dramas of the world no longer interest you and when shopping for gurus is no more; when habitual reading for the excitement of the mind is no more; when all your little worries no longer seem important and your only focus is on liberation; then and only then the messenger comes to take you out of this dream.

Jesus really is the Savior. How often the word “Savior” is used with no spirit behind it! Now I really know what it means. He saved me from my dream that became too oppressive; such messengers help when one is ready to be helped. Most, of course, are not ready, because most people are addicted to the dramas of life; though the dramas can be very painful, people love them still. Messengers cannot reach such individuals. The avatars make the grand entry only when a person is really done with the world, though smaller forms of help (like a sentence in a book) might be sent before that.

The messengers come when the soul is ripe, and that’s why guru-shopping really misses the point. If one is ready, the most perfect guru will come. If one is not ready, one can cling to many gurus without any result. The guru that’s ideal for you already waits for you, but are you ready to see, welcome and listen to him/her?

Your Greater Self will manifest in the most acceptable form to wake you up.For me it was in the form of Jesus because his way of explaining life was the most natural for me and my culture. Also, He was the Divine Avatar rather than a human guru because of my natural distrust of gurus due to the knowledge that a vast majority of them are fake. So Jesus was the most perfect messenger for me, the right liberator that would be able to slip past my worldly beliefs and rearrange the mind to see the greater Light.

For those living in India, Krishna or Buddha are likely to make more sense because they were incarnated in the bodies of that culture. Whatever shape they come in, the most important thing to understand is that they’re not separate from you! All of them come to awaken you to your Greater Self which they represent.

It’s true that humans are half Divine. The Creator arose from the void to create. It fell in love with its creation to the extent that it identified with its own creation and forgot its true identity. Now its sleep is over and it’s awakening itself. Now I see the Hindu story of the god Brahma falling in love with a woman he created in a whole different way.

The particle in the heart of every human being is the same; it’s the particle of God; when the wanderings through this world are understood for what they are – wanderings through the desert – the seed of God sprouts to become the Great Light taking you back whence you came.
